In Medellín, a ride on the Metrocable zips you over lush greenery and into the heart of the city’s peaceful transformation. Then, you’re whisked away to Cartagena, where colorful colonial charm meets turquoise waters, and you toast your trip with a sunset cocktail atop the historic city walls. Itinerary

Bogotá

Day 1: Arrival in Bogotá

Welcome to Colombia! After arriving in Bogotá, make the short transfer to your hotel with your groupmates. You’ll touch down later in the evening, so use the rest of your day to settle into your room, grab a bite to eat, catch up on sleep, and look forward to the rest of your journey. To acclimate to the altitude—Bogotá is perched at 8,600 feet above sea level—you’ll want to stay hydrated and take it easy as you adjust.

Day 2: Sightseeing tour of Bogotá

Included meals: Breakfast, Welcome lunch, Beer tasting

Today, get to know Colombia’s Andean metropolis (and largest city) with a local guide on a sightseeing tour. Honking horns, chattering crowds, and blaring music become your background symphony as you navigate the city’s thoroughfares.

  • Ascend to the towering Mount Monserrate by way of cable car—with a fast pass to skip the crowds—where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape. The top (way up there at 10,341 feet) is home to a popular pilgrimage site—the Sanctuary of Monserrate.
  • Greet the city (and your expert local guide) in Plaza Bolívar, Bogotá’s main square named after Latin America’s hero, Simon Bolívar. It’s a focal point for cultural events and gatherings and is surrounded by significant landmarks like the National Capitol of Colombia and the Primary Cathedral of Bogotá.
  • Set off on a short walking tour through the quaint colonial architecture of barrio La Candelaria, a small, historic neighborhood teeming with street art, delicious foods, and culture. Here, the streets are a stage for artisans, performers, and graffiti muralists.
  • Get to know your group during a welcome lunch at a local restaurant, served with your choice of beer or wine.

This afternoon, visit Casa de la Paz (The House of Peace) a safe space staffed by former members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—known locally as FARC. On the heels of the 2016 peace process in Colombia, the center offers a glimpse into the country’s difficult past and work towards reconciliation.

  • Learn how the mostly female-led house serves as a source of strength and community for Colombians through a variety of projects to reintegrate ex-guerrilla combatants into society.
  • Hear from former FARC combatants about the founding of the on-site La Trocha brewery and sample a few of its specialty frothy ales.
