The Battle of Vimy Ridge was actually fought in France during World War I as part of the Battle of Arras against Germany. However, the significance of this battle is that it marked the first time all Canadian regiments came together as a nation. Vimy Ridge signified the emergence of Canada as a united country and established a strong sense of patriotism and cultural identity that is still prevalent today.
April 9, 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge and will bring an unprecedented level of commemorative activities to the region, including a new Go Ahead tour that visits the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France and other important sites related to the World Wars in Belgium and the Netherlands. As part of EF Education First, we have an exclusive partnership with the Vimy Foundation that provides unparalleled access to the centennial celebration, making this a can’t-miss for Canadian travelers.
