Traveler story: Taking a tour for your honeymoon
Newlyweds Aly and Jared just returned from a trip to three of Europe’s most romantic cities: London, Paris & Rome. Here, Aly tells us what it’s like to take a guided tour of Europe for your honeymoon.
If there are two things that get us starry-eyed, it’s love stories and travel stories. So we were thrilled to talk to Aly and Jared who joined us on our London, Paris & Rome tour for their honeymoon. This was their first time out of the country together, and they decided to hit up three timeless—and incredibly romantic—European cities. Here, Aly tells us what it’s like to take a guided tour for your honeymoon.
What made this trip your honeymoon pick?
We knew we wanted an adventure. We are not the “beach types” and wanted to take this opportunity to see iconic cities. I had traveled with Go Ahead’s sister company EF Tours to Edinburgh, London, and Dublin during the last semester of my Master’s Degree. I loved how easy it was to travel! I was able to enjoy the experience without the hassle of thinking about all the details that overseas travel involves. Taking a tour allowed us to experience three iconic cities in nine days. Traveling together and sharing moments that we can talk about with our kids one day was a priceless experience for us!
Did you have anything on your “oh, we have to do that” list?
Quite a few! In London, we wanted to ride the London Eye, and it was everything we could have dreamed of. In Paris, we wanted to see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre. In Rome, we wanted to see the Roman Forum. In every instance, seeing it in person was more than either of us could have expected. We still get goosebumps thinking about each experience.
Seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle during our river cruise along the Seine was so special.
How did you celebrate being newlyweds?
Go Ahead surprised us with a bottle of champagne and sweet notes the first day we arrived in London. We also celebrated with a dinner and nighttime cruise on the Seine River in Paris. That was our favorite dinner of the whole trip. Seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle was amazing!
This is the Wall of Love in Paris’ Montmartre neighborhood, which has “I love you” in 250 languages.
What was it like traveling with a group on your honeymoon?
We loved our tour group. It felt like a giant family by the third day of the tour. Because we were given two and half days of free time in each of the three cities we visited, we were able to spend a lot of alone time together. When we wanted company, we had plenty of friends to tag along with. We highly recommend taking a tour for your honeymoon—the details of traveling were taken care of, and we were able to enjoy every moment with each other soaking in what each city had for us!
Our last night in Rome!
