Get cooking

America’s Test Kitchen—our partner in exploring the world (and learning new things!)—is offering online cooking classes that are tailored to kids in the kitchen. These easy recipes are perfect for little chefs, and each offers a special “learning moment” that teaches a new skill or fact.

#Drawtogether

You might be familiar with illustrator Wendy MacNaughton’s work in the cookbook Salt Fat Acid Heat (also one of our favorite travel shows to stream right now!). She’s hosting daily drawing lessons for kids of all ages on her Instagram at 10am PST, and past lessons are on her YouTube channel.

Do some yoga

Yoga is one of our travel-inspired workouts to do right now, and Cosmic Kids Yoga has a ton of short and fun videos that are specifically designed for younger yogis. Each class is a colorful story that kids can enjoy while they’re learning their poses!

Take a virtual field trip

See the Grand Canyon, explore a museum, take a (pretend) train ride in the Alps—there are tons of amazing places you can visit virtually. Afterward, you can have your kids or grandkids make a postcard from their online adventures, too!

Visit the zoo—online!

You can visit furry, scaly, and swimmy friends with live streams from zoos and aquariums around the country. A couple of our favorites? The Georgia Aquarium has a live webcam of their Ocean Voyager tank, so you can say “hi” to the whale sharks, and the Cincinnati Zoo offers “Home Safaris” for meeting the zoo’s residents on Facebook Live and YouTube.

Enjoy storytime

Whether it’s before bedtime or an afternoon break, everyone loves a good story. Oliver Jeffers, one of my favorite authors and illustrators, is reading one of his stories each day on his Instagram. But plenty of famous faces, from LeVar Burton to Dolly Parton, are reading to kids of all ages online.
